EL SIGLO DE ORO ESPAÑOL

Se conoce con este nombre al período de apogeo español, desarrollado en el siglo XVI, durante el reinado de Carlos I y Felipe II, que había comenzado a gestarse durante el siglo XV, y que a mediados del siglo XVII, se eclipsa hasta desaparecer.

Comienza con el reinado de los Reyes católicos, en 1492, donde se había producido la conquista de América, que amplió el mundo conocido, y la toma de Granada que implicó el punto decisivo de la Reconquista y la consolidación de la monarquía española, que luego de casi ocho siglos de guerra contra los musulmanes, quería lograr un estado fuerte y pacificado, alcanzando España la categoría de modelo a imitar por el resto de los países europeos.

Este período concluye a mediados del siglo XVII, culminando con Pedro Calderón de la Barca, en literatura y Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, en pintura, luego de lo cual se produce una gran decadencia cultural.
