Españoles fueron los primeros que vieron y sondearon el mayor de los golfos; españoles los que descubrieron los dos ríos más caudalosos; españoles los que por primera vez vieron el océano Pacífico; españoles los primeros que dieron la vuelta al mundo.

Cuando sepa el lector que el mejor libro de texto inglés ni siquiera menciona el nombre del primer navegante que dio la vuelta al mundo (que fue un español), ni del explorador que descubrió Brasil (otro español), ni del que descubrió California (español también), ni de los españoles que descubrieron y formaron colonias en lo que es ahora Estados Unidos, y que se encuentran en dicho libro omisiones tan palmarias, y cien narraciones históricas tan falsas como inexcusables son las omisiones, comprenderá que ha llegado ya el momento de que hagamos más justicia de la que hicieron nuestros padres a un asunto que debiera ser del mayor interés para todos los verdaderos americanos.

When the reader knows that the best book of text in english does not even mention the name of the first navigator who gave the round-the-world trip (that was a Spanish), not of the explorer who discovered Brazil (another Spanish), not of the one that discovered California (Spanish also), not of the Spanish who discovered and formed colonies in what it is now The United States, and that are in the above mentioned book so obvious omissions, and hundred historical stories so false as inexcusable are the omissions, he will understand that there has come already the moment of which we do more justice of which our parents did to a matter that must be of the major interest for all the real Americans.
