SPANISH EMPIRE.

It reached 20 million kilometres squared at the end of the 18th century, though his maximum expansion took place between the year 1580 and 1640, during the reigns of Philip II, the III and IVth. During the XVIth and XVIIth century it created an own structure not being calling a colonial empire until the year 1768, being in the 19th century when he acquires purely colonial structure.
The Spanish Empire was the first global empire, because for the first time an empire was including possessions in all the continents, which, unlike what it happened in the Roman Empire or in the Carolingian, some were not communicating for land with others.

La Florida was discovered, together, by Juan Ponce of León, Brothers Pinzón, Juan Díaz de Solís and Américo Vespuccio when they were sailing concerning the gulf of Mexico, whereas the oriental part was recognized in 1498 by Juan Caboto. On April 2, 1513, Ponce of León took possession of that supposed island giving him the current name, well for the beauty of his land or for the festivity of the Pascua Florida.

In 1538 there went out of Spain the expedition led by Hernando of Soto, that discoverer realized a similar epic, departing also from Tampa, crossing the Appalachians until Mississippi coming practically to the average course of the river. It is necessary to consider that in the 16th century and up to ends of the 18th century the name of The Florida was receiving a territory much more extensive that the one that nowadays receives such a name, so the government of The Florida that Hernando of Soto was awarding was including the current conditions of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.

It is known by this name to the period of Spanish height developed in the 16th century, during the reign of Carlos I and Philip II, who had begun to be in preparation during the 15th century, and that in the middle of the 17th century, is eclipsed up to disappearing.

It begins with the reign of the catholic Kings, in 1492, where there had taken place the conquest of America, which extended the known world, and the capture of Granada that implied the decisive point of the Reconquest and the consolidation of the Spanish monarchy, which after almost eight centuries of war against the Muslims, wanted to achieve a strong and appeased condition, managing Spain the model category to imitate for the rest of the European countries.

This period concludes in the middle of the 17th century, culminating with Pedro Calderón of the Boat, in literature and Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, in painting, after which a great cultural decadence takes place.

ORIGEN ESPAÑOL DEL DOLAR USA. US DOLLAR : SPANISH ORIGIN.

The sign $ was used in the commercial correspondence between the British norteamérica and Nueva España (Mexico) in the decade of 1770, to refer to the "peso" novohispano. The piaster was known as " Spanish dollar " in the British norteamérica, and in 1785, it was adopted as currency of the United States, together with the term dollar and the symbol $.

In 1492, the king Fernando II of Aragon adopted the symbol of Hercules' columns and the phrase added in "Non plus ultra" that it means " not beyond ", indicating " this one is in end of the (known) world ". But when Christopher Colón discovered America, the legend changed for "Plus ultra", "beyond". This symbol was specially adopted by Carlos V and was a part of his shield of weapon as a symbol of his American possessions.

When the Spanish conquerors found gold and silver in the new world, the symbol of Carlos V was stamped on the coins coined in these metals. These coins with Hercules' columns on two hemispheres spread for America and Europe, and the symbol was adopted, three centuries later, as many of the nations independent from America. Later the merchants wrote signs that, instead of saying dollar or weight, had this handmade symbol, and this one in turn evolved the simple one S with two vertical bars.
